In accordance with Music Teachers’ Association (MTA) Guidelines, Mark will not be teaching whilst the current Sydney lockdown is in place. This will delay Term 3 start until we have the COVID “all clear”.
On another note, however, Mark is proud and relieved to say that he is fully vaccinated…
The AMEB is still restricting face to face exams at its examination centres to Grade 7 and above. Video exam submission is available, but at this stage Mark is not recommending this, as it doesn’t really capture the exam experience. He is, however, doing “mock exams” with a number of his students which has proven to be valuable and even somewhat enjoyable!!
Mark recently had the privilege of playing Keys 1 for this production, including having a piano student “sit in” the orchestra pit for a performance!!!
School musicals are an invaluable part of musical development for all students who choose to get involved, and Mark passionately believes that students should do as much as they can on each production including filling the ranks of the orchestra - and 80% of the orchestra were students in this production. Its sometimes useful to include “ring ins”, however, especially when the score is the full Broadway touring orchestration!!!
